A person’s face can easily leave an impression on those around them. Do they have a kind face? An angry face? Do they look lively? These expressions can be altered by facial structure and features, which includes the weight in your face.

A lot of people are unhappy with how their faces carry weight. Things like cheek and chin fat are two examples of where you may be unhappy with your face. For me, I will show weight gain under my chin before most other areas. You might be one of those people too.

If you do feel unhappy with how weight is carried in your face, we want to help.

In this article, we will share some tips with you so you can better understand how to lose weight in your face.

How To Lose Weight In Your Face

The fact of the matter is, there is no one way how to lose weight in your face.

Everyone’s body is unique to them. Not all diets work for all people and not everyone enjoys the same types of exercise. Additionally, everyone’s body stores fat differently. Some people might keep weight in their cheeks, some people may see a double chin (me), some might feel their neck holds the most fat. Some people collect most of their body fat around their stomach (also me). Others have a more even distribution of body fat. Others still store fat in their face, arms, butt, thighs, or elsewhere.

But here’s the reality… Targeting specific areas to lose weight simply doesn’t work.

Things like lifestyle habits, eating habits, exercise or the lack there of, and genetics can all play a role in where and how you carry weight in your face.

If you’re hoping to lose weight in your face, the best thing you can do is work on weight loss in general. If you starting losing weight then your face will eventually lose some fat and start shaping up.

None of this is to say that there aren’t best practices to follow. If you want to know how to lose a fat face, follow these five tips.

Tip 1 – Drink Water

Many times, what we see as fat is really just water weight. Water weight causes swelling and bloating and can make you look heavier than you really are.Losing water weight is a healthy and safe way to look thinner if you do it correctly.

What happens is your body sometimes retains fluid. The body does this because you’re consuming too much salt, not drinking enough water, or are suffering from an injury. Knowing these three causes of excess water retention will help you understand how to best get rid of it.

The easiest thing to do to get rid of water weight is to drink more water. If your body has more access to water then it will not feel the need to retain water as if it’s in a drought. Additionally, this will help your body flush out salts and damaged proteins that result from poor dieting or injury. All of this will lead to less bloating caused by water retention.

Tip 2 – Eat Healthy Foods

It may be cliche, but you really are what you eat.

There are some exceptions, but the easiest way for most people to lose weight is bychanging their diet. It’s almost always easier to eat less than exercise more, right? Most of us don’t have hours and hours a day to spend training.

Make sure that your carbs are coming from healthy whole grains that are packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. A big piece of advice is to replace the empty calorie junk foods with nutrient-dense food.

Make every calorie count.

If your diet is full of wholesome food that’s rich in fiber and protein, you’ll feel fuller longer. If your diet is full of junk food your body will always crave more because it’s not getting the nutrition it needs in spite of all the calories it’s consuming.

Empty calories inevitably lead to weight gain which means you will not lose weight in your face.

Healthy foods mean you’ll get the nutrition you need while keeping your calories at a manageable level.

Tip 3 – Focus On Fitness And Exercise

You can’t out-exercise a poor diet, but that doesn’t mean that focusing on fitness is a bad idea.

Ideally, you’re consuming fewer calories than your body is using. Exercise can help make that goal a reality. Not only that, but the more muscle mass you gain, the more calories your body can consume throughout the day, making your body more efficient in processing calories.

Whether you enjoy running, weight-lifting, swimming, or walking, some movement is better than no movement. Whatever you can do to make your muscles and body more fit and efficient will help you lose the excess weight you need for a thinner face.

There are even some facial exercises that some people swear by that you can try to target the muscles in your face. Those who promote facial exercises say that these routines help prevent the signs of aging and can help better define your jawline.

Tip 4 – Make Sure To Get Your Beauty Sleep

So many people take sleep for granted. Make sure that you don’t.

Sleep is important for so many reasons. It’s important because your body does the bulk of its repair work while your sleeping. So if you’re exercising but not getting enough sleep, your body will take longer to recover. The longer it takes to recover from a workout, the harder it will be to see progress.

Sleep is also important because it’s a natural part of your circadian rhythm. Your circadian rhythm is what wakes you up, what puts you to sleep, what tells your body to start producing hormones, and what tells your body to start doing its job. All of this affects your metabolism as well as your ability to lose weight.

It’s pretty simple. If you want to lose weight, you have to make time for sleep.

Tip 5 – Lose The Salt

This final fitness tip is related to the first one. Salts, whether we’re talking about sodium or other minerals, are very important. Your body needs them for a variety of functions, but too much salt can be a problem.

Salt is one of those things that can cause water retention. An excess of salt triggers a similar reaction in the body that a lack of water does. Your cells want to maintain homeostasis, a state where the water-mineral ratio is the same in and out of the cell, but when you consume a lot of salt, it forces your body to hold onto extra water to maintain balance.

Cutting out the extra salt, keyword on extra…. don’t cut out all salt just the extra. When you do this it lessens the need for water retention. It’s also good for your blood.
